Steven Barr is the modern soldier, from his physique to his adrenaline addiction. His wife Andrea and child wish they had more of his focus between multiple tours of duty. Chris Villanueva is a combat photographer assigned to Barr's company during a routine tour in country, who has a healthier relationship to his pregnant wife, Lacey, and combat career. The connection between these two soldiers and their families back home, blur the line between here and now, much like a dream, as both worlds face a deteriorating reality.”
A Soldier’s Way was the first short film script Tim wrote the original script for in 2017 (before bringing to Adam & Elliott where they could all team up and flesh out the story together - filmed in the summer of 2018). This whole development & filmmaking process with ASW lit a fire in Tim to realize the absolute significance and how important, influential, & powerful storytelling is.
As a team in our pre-production stage, we partnered with PTSD Foundation of America (Dallas) and met with soldiers from all branches and walks of life, gaining insight on their specific & unique journeys in seeking to gain more insight and understanding for the development of our story, seeking to make it as real and relatable as possible. In this interview/roundtable discussion process with the veterans & developing our story, we connected with several veterans who helped us tremendously including Derek Barr (5-time Army combat tour veteran, frontlines soldier – who also headed up the PTSD Foundation of America - Dallas division) and Jeremy Lock (Air Force veteran and 7-time award winning, world renowned combat photographer) who became two of our primary consultants for the film, and were extremely integral & vital to the creation of our story and film throughout the entire process.
Our hearts for this film is to bring awareness and light to the severity and seriousness of how PTSD can affect veterans and their families - seeking to bring honor and respect to those who have served our country, and to bring understanding to the general public on the extreme sacrifice that the soldiers & their families take, and have taken to do so.
